Aim: To support projects that develop new work by the tangata whenua across artforms. Te Waka Toi will fund Mäori artists who wish to create artworks that challenge the boundaries and broaden the perceptions of Mäori art. "New work" refers to work that is not imitative; work that may involve creation or development from an existing idea (which may be derivative); or work that provides new directions in Mäori art. With this funding programme, we want to ensure there are opportunities for Mäori artists wishing to create new work. Examples of projects we fund: any project involving the creation of new work. This includes concept development for new work (e.g. work that pushes the boundaries of Maori art) and commissions. If an organisation (e.g. art gallery) commissions a Maori artist to create new work, the artist can apply for funding to work on the commissioned piece. |
