Aim: To support the creation of original New Zealand work. Under this funding programme, the Arts Board provides grants to artists as the primary creators of new work. We also fund organisations wanting to commission or employ artists in a creative process. We anticipate that any funding under this programme will eventually result in a tangible work of art and that commissions should have a public outcome: eg a performance, an exhibition or a manuscript for publication. We provide grants for some or all aspects of the creative process. This may include creative development, rehearsals and initial performance or exhibition. Individual artists may receive direct support to complete a project over a specified period of time. GENERAL PRIORITIES: Priority will be given to activities meeting one or more of the following criteria that: encourage innovation and excellence in artistic endeavour, stretch boundaries within and across artforms, and/or lead to substantial artform development, encourage the creation of work reflecting our unique cultural identity, provide for the creation of work reflecting the experiences and priorities of a community contribute to debate on arts practice and foster greater understanding and experiences of Maori arts (in partnership with tangata whenua). PLEASE NOTE: Applications from artists who have little or no track record are unlikely to be funded and may be ineligible to apply for grants for some activities. SPECIFIC ASSESSMENT CRITERIA FOR NEW WORK: Artists' experience/track record and the activity's contribution to arts development. |
